‘Take a moment to remember who God is and who I am… there You go lifting my load again. No longer am I held by the yoke of this world. Come upon me yoke of Jesus. His yoke is easy, His burden is so light.’ (“Take a Moment” – Will Reagan & United Pursuit, listen here)
If I was to speak from a place of worldly logic and dwelling in the ‘old man’ (choosing to carry an old dead nature around with me, Romans 6:6), my reflections on this last month may be bleak: A crisis of health in my family may have been a reason to fall into distress and dismay.
Instead, because of the endless, relentless grace of God, this month Ben and I and our family find ourselves on the precipice of a new awareness of His goodness – an awakening to greater understanding of His faithfulness and peace, daily finding our whole selves in His good good arms – our emotions, our thoughts, our feelings.
As Graham Cooke says, we are “letting God be who He is in our lives” – which is so much bigger than our circumstances. We are taking moments everyday to remember who God is and who we are – He is reminding us that joy and peace are bigger than us, they are consistently present and accessible in all circumstances because they are fruits of the Spirit of God: they are His nature which is always in us through faith in Jesus. We are pressing into the truth that God’s will is for full restoration, full healing – Jesus’ healing ministry shows us this so clearly!
We are learning that negativity and defeated attitudes have no place in His Kingdom perspective and that battles are won through intimacy with the Father; when his people worship and manifest His presence of love, joy, peace, patience, goodness, kindness and self-control. When those negative thoughts and feelings from outside try to control our outlook we are encouraging each other with the truth of God’s word.
So do not fear, for I am with you
Do not be dismayed, for I am your God.
I will strengthen you and help you
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
While distance from family has been challenging, our time in Indonesia was 100% God ordained. He put us with a dear friend, Gretah Gray, who has a profound revelation of who God is and who we are as His children. She was able to speak truth and life to us on hard days and practice joy with us through the freedom we have to be total weirdos together. We often found ourselves laughing to the point of tears at something absurd. Praise God for beautiful, encouraging friendships!
We heard stories from Indonesian people of miracles on a scale that flawed and humbled us. We met people who had clung to Jesus in the face of persecution and near death and now faithfully serve the same people who persecuted them in the past!
Every month of this trip, God has led us to incredible people whose stories reveal more and more about His nature and who encourage and challenge us in our faith. We are looking with expectation to our next month in LA and Oakland with InnerCHANGE.
Your prayers for continued healing for Ellie and for peace for our family are deeply appreciated.
